Capt. Bonner “Bones” Armbruster grew up on the water in San Marcos, Texas, fishing, swimming, and exploring the world through the lens of the beautiful San Marcos River.

During college, he worked at a rock-climbing gym and guided a few outdoor trips, which, in retrospect, ruined him for life.

From there, he pursued both writing and a career in fine furniture production. While doing so, he got married, had a daughter, and was introduced to the pleasures of fly fishing by a good friend, who, inadvertently, ruined him a second time…

These experiences, combined with a love of learning and a lifelong dream to be an artist of some kind, eventually lead Bones to the guide life.

A well-executed cast calls to him the same way a beautifully-made piece of furniture or a poem might, and answering those calls resulted in a life outside of a linear career track, but solidly within the definition of “well-lived”.

Bones likes to say that the only thing he can’t teach clients is enthusiasm, but that, with luck and mutual respect, it can be shared.

He hopes his passion for wild places and rowdy fish comes across on every trip. Ideally, both client and guide leave feeling they have learned something about one another and the landscape through which they have moved.
